Marching Band and Color Guard

The Madison High School Marching Band and Color Guard is one of the largest student groups to represent the school.  The marching band rehearses from May to November and performs at all football games and several competitions throughout the fall season.  The band has a history of qualifying for the Ohio Music Education State Finals by achieving a Superior Rating at regional contests as well as finishing among the top groups in their class at the Mid States Band Association regional competitions. For the first time ever, the Marching Band received a Superior Rating at the state OMEA contest in 2017!

The band proudly represents the Madison community around the country.  They have had the privilege to travel to Walt Disney World in 2010, 2014, and 2018 to represent Madison in Disney's Magic Music Days Festival and also performed at the Statue of Liberty in New York in 2012 and 2016, and will return to the Big Apple in 2020.

Concert Band

The Madison High School Concert Band begins rehearsal at the conclusion of the marching band season in late October.  The Concert Band performs several times from November to May including a Winter Concert, the Madison White Christmas Assembly, the Bellbrook Band Festival, a March concert, a Spring Concert, and Graduation.  The concert band hosts the Ohio Music Education Association’s District XIII Large Group Adjudicated Event annually in March, bringing in groups from 20+ schools all over the Dayton and Cincinnati area.  In addition to their on-stage performances, the concert band can be heard at home basketball games throughout the winter months.

Jazz Band

The Madison High School Jazz Band is an extra-curricular ensemble that practices after school at the conclusion of the marching band season.  The Jazz Band consists of approximately 25 musicians, most of which are playing a secondary instrument in the ensemble.  The Jazz Band performs at various school functions in the spring, concluding the year with their annual Jazz Festival, a fundraiser held late April/early May in the Elementary school.

Steel Band

The Madison Steel Band Program is an extra-curricular program that meets after school at the conclusion of the marching band season.  This branch of the music program has proudly grown to comprise of 5 ensembles: one for each grade level and a class ensemble that meets daily during second semester.  These ensembles are in high demand at school events, local events, and Steel Band Festivals throughout the spring each year.  They annually perform at events such as Dayton Dragons and Columbus Blue Jackets games.  The Steel Band has received Superior Ratings at the Ohio Music Education Solo and Ensemble Event in the past.  They have also performed at Ron Jon's Surf Shop in Cocoa Beach Florida in 2010, 2014, and 2018.
